Shovels and the Scriptures – Episode 4
In Episode 4, Bridgett and Justin chat with Jay Johnson, Trinity Canton’s accomplished “philatelist” (a fancy word for a stamp collector!). Bridgett and Justin are awestruck by the size and scope of Jay’s stamp collection, and they highlight a small sampling of Jay’s stamps, from 60 years ago (1961) and from different countries (the Soviet Union, Israel, and the USA). True to the Shovels and the Scriptures series, the discussion turns to an historical-biblical theme: a stamp issued in 1961 to commemorate the Apostle Paul’s stated plans to visit Spain (recorded in Romans 15). Bridgett, Jay, and Justin then discuss another historical-biblical event worth commemorating and celebrating (Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection), and Bridgett walks us through how to memorize a relevant verse from Paul’s letter to the Romans: “Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1). Be sure to watch until the end, as Jay shares some profound wisdom related to prayer, the scriptures, and God’s heart. Enjoy!
